Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS ANODIZING?

Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish – aluminum is ideally suited to anodizing.

  • Anodizing is an electrochemical process that makes resistant to abrasive conditions and provides corrosion resistance.
  • Provides military standard spec Mil-A-8625
  • Comes in a clear anodize coating and can be dyed in multiple colors

IS HARD ANODIZE THE SAME THING AS A TYPE II ANODIZE?

Hard anodizing is really Type III, though it shares the same mil-spec and acid bath technique. Type III / hard anodize is much more abrasion and corrosion resistant compared to Type II.

CAN I ANODIZE ANY OTHER PARTS SUCH AS BRASS OR STEEL?

No, the specific part being anodized must only be aluminum or titanium.

HOW THICK IS THE COATING FOR DECORATIVE ANODIZING?

Anodizing coating build-up results a thickness of .0005 – .0008 of total build-up.

WHAT IS TYPE II VS TYPE III ANODIZING?

Type II is normal “clear” sulfuric acid anodizing. Type III is “hardcoat”.
